  • Constructing a Conservation Ethic

The ethic that each of us employ in our daily lives speak volumes about our desire for the future and those who stand to win or lose.

  • Climate Change and Water

The world is warming, of this there are no deniers. The last decade has been the warmest on record since temperature monitoring began in the mid 19th century. When it comes to forward thinking I often find myself looking across the pond to the Netherlands.

  • Denver is Leading the Way

When it comes to water conservation, Denver Water is a leader. They have long seen the writing on the wall and have aggressively worked to educate people on the value of water and the need to use it wisely.

  • The Conservation Death Spiral (and how to deal with it).

Water utilities who promote conservation are playing a delicate game. The capacity with which the utility is able to function is directly proportional to the revenue generated from it’s customer base. If the utility asks people to use less water than they are essentially asking for less money. Can that be right?

  • Sprinklers…do the math

Most people have no idea how much water they use to irrigate their lawn and garden until they receive that first, and often shocking, water bill of the summer. By doing some simple math you can avoid that annual shocker and obtain an understanding of your water use.

Every Drop Counts

Did you know that the average American uses about 100 gallons of water every day? But we can all reduce that amount by 30 gallons by taking a few simple steps, such as installing WaterSense labeled plumbing fixtures and using water efficiently in our yards.

The Pagosa Water and Sanitation District is committed to protecting the future of our national and local water supply through water-efficient practices, products, and services. That is why we are partnering with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to bring to you WaterSense, a national program that offers people a simple way to make product choices that use less water—and perform as well or better than your existing products.

Why Should You Care?

● Waste not want not.
● Protecting and preserving the nation’s fresh water supply is critical to our future and our children’s future.
● WaterSense labeled products and services perform as well as or better than their less efficient counterparts.
● Purchasing WaterSense labeled products can help you protect the environment and save money on utility bills.

Test Your WaterSense

Think you know everything there is to know about water? You can’t be sure until you’ve played EPA’s “Test Your WaterSense” online quiz! Maneuver the waterefficiency hero Hydro through water pipes and answer water-efficiency questions while avoiding water-wasting monsters such as Sogosaurus and Drainiac.
